Kyoto Tower Sento,

This sento is very conveniently located... And that's all there is to it. The bath is quite small, and the owner couple clearly show that they don't care about customers, since so many tourists are coming anyway. Our group was 3/4 Japanese and 1/4 *visibly* foreigners, and the old man muttered (to us!) something about the hassle of dealing with gaijin-san, even though we talked to him in Japanese and were in a mainly Japanese group. Probably not worth a second visit, and the first wasn't that great either.

the outside onsen is definitely not worth neither the 1100 Yen admission nor the long travel to Kurama.
I definitely preferred the Funaoka Onsen in Kyoto.

It is best to get there early in the morning when the light is low and the crowds are smaller. Yet nothing can prepare you for the experience - just brilliant. Definitely one of the best "oh gosh" moments in Japan.
